If you are travelling from Hyderabad, or if you want to combine your holy dip with a visit to one of India's most famous Rama temples, Bhadrachalam is your destination. It offers the perfect balance of spiritual energy and manageable crowds.
Bhadrachalam is located in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana. Unlike Rajahmundry, which is a massive, sprawling city, Bhadrachalam is a temple town. The entire energy of the place revolves around the Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple, which sits on a hill right next to the river.
For 2027, the Telangana government has allocated over ₹1,000 crore specifically for this region. They are expanding the main ghat, widening the approach roads, and setting up temporary infrastructure to handle the estimated 50 lakh pilgrims who will visit this town alone.
Why choose Bhadrachalam? It is incredibly popular with families. It is much less chaotic than Kotilingala in Rajahmundry, but it has far more spiritual infrastructure than a quiet ghat in Konaseema. You can take your holy dip in the morning and then walk directly up the steps to have darshan of Lord Rama.
Because the main temple ghat gets incredibly crowded, the administration has developed satellite ghats nearby. Here is the breakdown.
If you are bathing at the main ghat, you must visit the Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple. Be prepared for strict security. There are separate queues for men and women, and metal detectors. Large bags, cameras, and phones are not allowed inside. The temple administration usually sets up special darshan lines for pilgrims who have taken the holy dip.
Bhadrachalam is a small town. There are very few private hotels, and they will be fully booked 6 months in advance. The temple choultries (guest houses) require early booking and are very basic. The government will set up massive tent cities on the outskirts, but if you are travelling with elderly parents, we strongly advise booking a private hotel in Kothagudem (40 km away) and commuting.
